This will put 50,000 units of food in your fridge. I turned on the game this morning and there was 0 units and a very hungry toddler – that’s not good. I snooped in the save files a bit and made this patch. It comes in two flavours – one for x86 and one for x64 machines. If you have no idea which, you’re probably going to need the x86. For all I know, the x86 will work for x64 machines. Tested in XP only. And no, I don’t have a MAC so I don’t know how to make patches for MAC games.
Virtual Families 50K food patch (x86)
Virtual Families 50K food patch (x64)
- Open up your VF game, pause it, then close it. (Not minimize it – close it!)
- Unzip the file you downloaded.
- Run the patch.
- Under where it says “Path to the file to patch” there is a box. To the right of that, there’s a little box with 3 dots on it. Click.
- It should go straight to your default user directory, so just pick LDW > VirtualFamilies > and in my case, “Virtual Families1.ldw” click on it, click open.
- Under “Patch application options” check the top two. It should create a backup.
- Click OK.
- Run your game, and check the fridge. 50K should be OK if you forget about them for a few days, even with a family of 8.
- If you’re still confused, check out this video.
While you’re here, check out my Easier to Spot Collectibles mod and the Here Comes the Sun mod.

Is there an alternate link that I can download the patches from? Also, is there a patch for coins as well?

This Was A Very Helpful Patch…. I Think A Money Patch Would Be Awesome, Just So Purchasing Things Wouldn’t Take So Long…
April 26, 2009 at 11:06 am
A money patch would totally ruin the game. I mean, you’d end up buying everything the first generation. What would be the point of playing then?
VF is kind of like Animal Crossing – stuff happens a little at a time, but I didn’t have to worry about my person dying of hunger in ACWW if I left her alone for a few days. That’s why I made this patch for VF.
Meanwhile…take a look at my new mod? π

Short, sweet, to the point, FRelEExact-y as information should be!
April 26, 2009 at 4:39 pm
Hi Marie, you might have patched the wrong file. There are three files in the save folder, and if you patched the
Virtual Families21.ldw
instead of the
Virtual Families1.ldw
file, it will not work.
April 26, 2009 at 10:50 pm
Hello, is it strange that I don’t have a save folder?
I don’t see anywhere to save my game, and don’t have a VirtualFamilies1.ldw file at all
π
April 26, 2009 at 11:12 pm
The game is saved automatically – you won’t see a save folder unless you look for it.
I’m going to point you over to the LDW forums where they have instructions on how to backup your saves. I’d rather not cover it here since I don’t have Vista myself.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. I was able to unzip the file for the X86 machines and applied it to Virtual Families1.ldw. But it still isnt working. I have the X64, but when I try to unzip that one, it wont unzip.
says its not a valid win32 application
April 27, 2009 at 10:16 am
Hi marie,
That’s because you’re on a 32bit machine and the alternate file is for 64bit machines. Anyway, could you zip up your entire LDW/Virtual Families SAVES for me and upload it to mediafire or rapidshare so I can take a look at them? Just post the link here or send it via my contact page.
April 27, 2009 at 10:42 am
Hi again, sorry to sound like a newbie, but how do I locate that file and upload it. Thanks for all the help
April 27, 2009 at 12:10 pm
do a search for the folder named “VirtualFamilies” – one word. The folder should come up in the search.
mine is in
c:\Users\Sally\LDW\VirtualFamilies\
And yours should be in the same place with your username instead.
August 7, 2012 at 7:17 am
this folder is in called LDW a folder in your DOCUMENTS folder.
Inside this folder you will find virtual families. don’t change it.
U can copy it to have a back-up or change it with a friend px: to trade families…

May 3, 2009 at 12:11 pm
hoi
thanks for your food patch
i tried it and it works perfectly
keep up the good work
May 7, 2009 at 4:55 am
Ok, tried all instructions to the pixel.
Tried doing the folder search, tried both patches. Neither work, I just get an error message stating “There was an error applying patch: 0x80070057 (The parameter was incorrect.)
There’s no LDW > Virtual Families folder, Just Virtual Families and there is no VirtualFamilies1.ldw file.
I can’t find said ‘save’ folder and in forum could not find relevant post to back up my ‘save’ files.
Could you work this one out? Windows XP SP2 if that helps.
May 7, 2009 at 11:23 am
Hi Mike,
here’s the guide to backing up your games on the ldw forums.
http://www.ldwforums.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/188724/Searchpage/1/Main/16304/Words/backup/Search/true/Backing_up_and_recovering_save#Post188724
and according to that:
The savegame files are named Virtual Families1.ldw through Virtual Families5.ldw, and correspond to each of the savegame slots (1 at the top and 5 at the bottom). There is also a backup of each savegame file named Virtual Families21.ldw through Virtual Families25.ldw. (If you have not previously made a backup of your game(s) and your primary savegame file becomes corrupted, you can move or delete the corrupted file and rename the backup file to see if it will load correctly. e.g. if your game in slot 1 becomes unplayable, you can try renaming Virtual Families21.ldw to Virtual Families1.ldw).
So try searching for “Virtual Families1.ldw” in windows search. I’m also using xp sp2.
May 9, 2009 at 1:12 pm
search complete no files found. I’ve no LDW Folder to back up any save data as theres none that exist. whats wrong with my game? lol
May 9, 2009 at 1:12 pm
Nevermind found it
May 8, 2009 at 11:19 am
great patch a money mod would be a great addition ^^
May 9, 2009 at 6:57 am
In what part of the hex is the food?
It would be nice if you could share that so we can do the editing outselves.
Likewise with the money if you know where that is, rather than giving out a patch showing us the location so we can do it ourselves would be awesome! π
May 15, 2009 at 1:48 am
Thanks for the patch. I couldn’t find the file at first, then found it in my documents and settings (was looking in program files first). Patch worked on both games, thanks again. =)

Are you going to make a money patch or at least tell someone how?
August 7, 2012 at 7:11 am
download cheatengine, free program to give lots of money to virtual families and sims1-2-3…
June 17, 2009 at 7:52 pm
I don’t know how. π
Money and food are totally different things.
Also, trust me; you don’t need a money patch. Right now I Have 200000 sitting around doing NOTHING and gaining interest, with not much to buy, and that’s only after the 3rd generation.
June 18, 2009 at 3:14 am
Sorry didnt mean to sound rude
i just want to get the house upgrades done quickly lol
August 21, 2009 at 9:29 pm
WOW… this was AWESOME… totally followed your instructions, got stuck around #5 but got it, and when I did it all i opened up the game and indeed I had 50000 units of food on my fridge. THANKS now I can focus on saving to buy other stuff.
June 4, 2010 at 8:13 pm
I tried the x86 one and followed all the instruction but I;m getting this error
“There was an error applying patch: 0Γ80070057 (The parameter was incorrect.)”
I’m using Vista Home Premium. is there anything i can do to make it work?
August 7, 2012 at 7:10 am

February 10, 2012 at 11:41 pm
I used the patch and when I switch to another game, I lost my newborn child and all the money I gained since the last time I opened it. What do I do to undo the patch?!
April 10, 2012 at 1:04 am
Please give me save files of virtual families
August 7, 2012 at 7:09 am
Look under documents on your pc you will find LDW folder that is the savegame-file folder. You can copy it and trade it with gamers.
